THE MISSING PIECE
SWident provides the missing piece to the puzzle of Software Asset Management (SAM). Organizations, such as yours, have attempted to resolve the issue of software identification through the use of discovery tools, databases of “known” software and repositories. As a result you use your IT staff to pour over a mountain of data and spend time solving the riddle of installed software identification. SWident's primary purpose is to help you with the daunting task of accurately and completely indentifying installed software at a cost much lower than you are currently spending.
We have found that even after using the very best discovery tools, Software Asset Managers still do not know the size of their Software Asset Management problem.
In fact, they do not even know all of the Publishers in their IT environment (with 99+% certainty). That is because software publishers and large companies who re-distribute software are inconsistent in the way they embed information into their executable files and registry add/remove programs. For example, how do you deal with an embedded Publisher Names like "Company Name" or "P1140 EN 01?"
Our many years of experience in trying to cope with these problems has led us to believe that our "eyes on" process is the only way to get even close to a complete answer.
